Piolo Pascual works again with Zaijian Jaranilla and Xyriel Manabat in Hawak Kamay

July 30, 2014

Piolo Pascual says working with kids in Hawak Kamay is refreshing because there's no love angle in the story. In this ABS-CBN teleserye, Piolo is cast as Gin, who will try to prove that he can be a guardian of three orphaned kids (played by Zaijian Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, and Yesha Camile). Playing a father role is not a problem, said Piolo during the press conference of Hawak Kamay last Friday, July 18.

"What prepared me is the fact that I'm already a father," referring to his real-life experience as a father to 17-year-old son, Inigo.

"It's quite easy because I also grew up with so many pamangkins.

"Siguro the only challenge there was to play the guitar.

"I don't know how to play the guitar.

"I had to play the guitar and sing at the same time.

"Mahirap din pong gumanap na lasing ka kahit hindi ka nakainom kaya doon po ang challenge.

"Pero it's fun! Masaya po siya kasi wala namang sabugan dito, wala namang patayan.

"Realistic po ang mga situations, totoo po ang mga nangyayari."

Since they're dealing with kids, who are under strict labor rules, Piolo said the only challenge for him was to wake up early.

Other than that, the actor said everything is fine on their set.

He recalled, "When I worked with Zaijian and Xyriel in 24/7 in Love, where I played an MR [mental retard], I saw how contagious it is to be around kids and how to act like them."

Work takes on a different meaning when one is surrounded with kids, according to Piolo.

Zaijan Jaranilla still wants to be a regular kid despite his celebrity status

July 03, 2013

Zaijan Jaranilla reportedly earned millions of pesos from his latest endorsements alone, but ABS-CBN’s wonder boy steered clear of such discussions when ABS-CBN.com and a few other entertainment reporters visited him on the set of Noah recently. But he admitted that he was able to purchase a three-storey house from his previous earnings. “Yung bahay po namin sa may Tandang Sora (Quezon City). Wala akong sariling kwarto kasi natatakot ako. Dun kami lahat sa attic sa third floor natutulog. Pero meron pong dalawang kwarto sa baba, tapos isa sa taas,” said the charming eight-year-old.

While a lot of kids his age would like to get the latest gadgets and toys that are out in the market, Zaijan claimed that he rarely asks his parents to buy stuff for him. “Wala po [akong gusto ipabili]. Tinitipid lang po namin [yung pera]. Bumili kami ng bahay pero sasakyan wala pa. Kaya binibigyan po kami ng service ng ABS-CBN [tapos yun ang ginagamit namin para sa taping].” As a matter of fact, he even gave away his PSP, which he often plays with on the set, to his cousin. But he still has the Nintendo Wii that Dominic Ochoa gave him when they worked together on May Bukas Pa.

Celebrities who are part of teleseryes usually have long working hours, but minors like Zaijan are only allowed to work until a certain time. When asked if he throws tantrums when he gets tired on the set, Zaijan was quick to say that he only cries if a person wakes him up when he falls asleep in between takes. But he obviously enjoys his character Ilay as he was a bundle of energy the whole time the press was on the set. Not only did he give the press a tour on the jungle-like set of Noah while entertaining with his witty remarks during the interview. Then he still managed to memorize his lines before going back to work again.

What’s more admirable about Zaijan is that he still attends a regular school despite his busy schedule. “Grade 3 na po ako sa Angelicum. Tapos nung nag-enrol ako meron akong naging BFF, parang kuya ko na po kasi college na siya.” When asked about his academic performance, he would sometimes get low grades especially with his Science subjects. “Pero favorite ko po ang Math. Sa school na ako nagrereview [kasi madaming ginagawa sa set]. Pero okay lang kasi pang-hapon naman po ako.”

As he’s turning nine this coming August, Zaijan said that he is not particular with the kind of gift that he wants to receive for his birthday. But if he would ever get the chance to go abroad again, he said that he would like to visit London where some of his relatives are based.

But the talented child actor said he is willing to work hard and always do his best to get more challenging projects. Zaijian said he hopes to grow up with a career like his favorite Kapamilya actor Lloyd Cruz. “Gusto ko paglaki ko maging ganun rin ako kagaling sa pag-arte,” he admitted. If he were not in showbiz, Zaijan said he wants to become a businessman.

Wansapanataym head writer Cris Lim said that they were very confident in choosing Zaijian for their upcoming episodes “Nicolas Layas,” “Number 1 Father and Son,” and “Kapitan Liit.” Lim said he believes Zaijian has the talent to take on any character and is very professional to work with.

Just like any boy his age, Zaijan said he enjoys bonding time with his siblings at home and playing games with them. “Wish ko rin sana mas maging marami pa yung friends ko,” he said. The Wansapanataym actor also revealed to the press that he is saving up to buy his own iPhone 5 soon.
